How to Connect a GoDaddy Domain to Shopify

If you’ve purchased your domain through GoDaddy and want to connect it to your Shopify store, follow these simple steps to get everything set up. With this guide, you’ll have your domain pointing to your Shopify store in no time.

Step 1: Log into Your GoDaddy Account

  1. Go to GoDaddy.com and log into your account.

  2. Navigate to your list of domains under My Products.

Step 2: Access the DNS Settings

  1. Locate the domain you want to connect and click DNS or Manage DNS.

  2. In the DNS Management section, you’ll see records like A Records and CNAME Records. These need to be updated to point to Shopify.

Step 3: Update the A Record

  1. Find the A Record in your DNS settings. It will likely already have an IP address listed.

  2. Click Edit next to the A Record.

  3. Change the value in the Points to field to Shopify’s IP address: 23.227.38.65.

  4. Save your changes.

Step 4: Update the CNAME Record

  1. Look for the CNAME Record labeled as "www."

  2. Click Edit next to the CNAME Record.

  3. Update the Points to field to: shops.myshopify.com.

  4. Save your changes.

Step 5: Connect Your Domain in Shopify

  1. Log into your Shopify admin panel.

  2. Go to Settings > Domains.

  3. Click Connect existing domain.

  4. Enter your GoDaddy domain (e.g., www.yourdomain.com) and click Next.

  5. Shopify will automatically detect your settings. If everything is set up correctly, you’ll see a confirmation message.

Step 6: Verify Your Connection

  1. It may take up to 48 hours for the DNS changes to propagate across the internet.

  2. Once the connection is verified, your domain will show as "Connected" in your Shopify admin.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • DNS Changes Didn’t Work: Double-check that the A Record and CNAME Record match Shopify’s requirements.

  • Domain Not Connecting: Clear your browser cache or try accessing your site from a different device.

  • Need Help? Contact GoDaddy support or Shopify support for additional assistance.

By following these steps, your GoDaddy domain will be seamlessly connected to your Shopify store. If you run into any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out for help!
